How does a principal select pre-conference prompts from the prompt bank?

Background

The prompt bank can store pre-conference prompts, post-conference prompts, and student growth goal prompts, and make them easily available for when an evaluating principal needs to send them to a teacher.

  • District Administrators of eVAL can create prompts that are available for all principals in the district to assign to teachers. School Adminstrators can create prompts that are available to all principals within their school.
  • The creator(s) of the prompts can configure the prompts to either be required or optional.
  • A required prompt does not automatically show up in a teacher's eVAL tool. Rather, it only appears when the principal decides to send it.

This article assumes that the principal has already set up (scheduled) the observation events. It guides the principal through selecting pre-conference prompts that are already available in the prompt bank and sending the prompt(s) to the teacher in preparation for an upcoming observation.

Let's Get Started

After signing into eVAL and selecting the work area for evaluating teachers, the principal must carry out these steps:

  1. Select the teacher's name in the drop-down menu;
  2. Click on the Observations menu (a green marker will appear to the left);
  3. Find the pertinent observation in the list of observations for that teacher, and click on the green View button.

The page for the Setup tab will be displayed by default.

  1. To work with the prompts for the pre-conference, click on the Pre tab.
  2. If any of the prompts are required for the pre-conference, they will already be loaded in the right section, and will be noted as "Required" in the pertinent column.
  3. If the authors of the prompts did not require the prompts, but rather just made them optional and available, they will be listed in the left section, with their authors listed in the "source" column.
  4. To select additional prompts from the left section and add them to the list of prompts to send to the teacher, click on the desired prompt, and then click on its green arrow to move it to the right section.

Removing a Prompt from the List of Selected Prompts

If you change your mind about a prompt that you moved from the Prompt Bank on the left to the list of Selected Prompts on the right, you can remove it by clicking on the X in the small red circle by that prompt. Taking this action simply removes it from the list of selected prompts and sends it back to the prompt bank on the left.

Sending the Final List of Prompts to the Teacher

When you have selected all of the prompts you wish to send to the teacher and have moved them over to the list of Selected Prompts on the right, click on the green Select Prompts button at the bottom of the list.
