How does a teacher respond to a shared observation report?

Background:

It is the principal's responsibility to create and send an observation report to the teacher. If the principal has marked the observation cycle as complete (see the previous chapter), then all that is left for the teacher to do is to read the observation report. However, if the principal has not yet marked the observation cycle as complete and has simply sent the observation report to the teacher, then a teacher can respond to the principal. The very act of responding to the principal about the observation report will mark the observation cycle as complete, and will lock it from further changes. This article covers the steps a teacher will take to respond to the observation report.

Follow these steps:

Sign in to eVAL. Take note that the dashboard will display two notifications by the Observations link. Neither notification is hyperlinked; they are only their to provide an alert that something has changed or is required. Click on the Observations link.

Clicking on the Observations link (above) will take the teacher further down on the dashboard's page, to the Observations section.

  1. Skim that section and look for the teal Action Required button. It will appear right after the description of the action that is required of the teacher.
  2. Click on the green View button for that observation.

Clicking on the green View button (above) will bring you to the Report tab for that observation cycle. There are several possible actions to take at this point.

  1. Take note of the two blue notifications that provide information about the status of the observation report.
  2. Create a PDF of the report by clicking on the green Create PDF button.
  3. View the final report online by clicking on the green View Final Report button.

After viewing the online report, you can add a response and send it to the principal if you wish. To add a response, type the response in the response field, and then click on the green Submit Response button under the response field.

Once you send your response to your principal, the observation cycle will be marked as complete, and it will be locked from further changes, as noted in the light blue notification that appears above the tab bar. The only way to unlock the observation cycle is to click ont he green Request Unlock button and ask to have the observation cycle unlocked.

Read the next chapter to learn more about  sending a request to unlock an observation cycle.
