How can a teacher and principal compare their scores of the observation evidence?

Background:

If the principal has allowed the teacher to self-evaluate the evidence shared from the observation ... and ... if the principal has scored the evidence ... then the two scores can be compared, which can lead to a meaningful discussion about quality instruction and professionalism. This article covers the steps that a principal and teacher would take to compare their scores of the evidence.

Follow these steps:

Both the teacher and the principal need to get into the Observation module and view the tabs for this observation. Once they do that, they should follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Align and Score tab.
  2. Make sure the Input Filter says Merged.
  3. Choose a component in the Rubric Navigator that has a numeral under the Packaged column.
  4. Locate the specific evidence that was coded to that component; it will be located under the Packaged Evidence section of the work space on the left.
  5. Use the Color Index at the top to see the similarities and differences in how the principal and the teacher scored the evidence that was coded to that component.

In the sample above, the teacher and principal did not score the evidence the same, as indicated with the two different colors used in the Color Index. However, in the sample below,  the evidence for component P5 was scored as Proficient by both the teacher and the principal, as indicated with the use of the color green from the Color Index.

This is the last article in this chapter.
