Start of Year Activities

At the beginning of the school year the district administrator has a special role in setting up eVAL for district users.

Required Tasks

Selecting Evaluation Frameworks

Before anyone in your district can begin using eVAL, a district administrator must select the evaluation framework(s) they will be using for evaluations within eVAL. A district can choose to use eVAL for teacher evaluations only, principal evaluations only, or both.

For more in-depth documentation for this task see Framework Setup.

Assigning Evaluators/Evaluation Cycles

Once the evaluation frameworks have been selected, the next step is to get the accounts set up for individual users that will be involved in evaluations.

  1. Teacher Evaluators/Eval Cycle Setup: This task can be performed at the district level by a District Administrator or a District Assignment Manager. It can also be delegated to the school where it can be performed by either a School Administrator or Principal. For in-depth instructions for this task see Assigning Principals to Evaluate Teachers.

Optional Tasks

District Settings

There are multiple setttings available to a district to customize areas within eVAL. For example, you can choose to enable/disable the Self-Assessments module, depending on whether you district wants to utilize this feature.

For more in-depth documentation on District Settings see.

Prompt Bank Setup

  1. Student Growth Goal Prompts: for Teacher Evaluations Student Growth Goal Prompts are presented to teachers as part of the goal planning process. They are not a required part of Student Growth, but if your district would like to include them, they must be created by a District Administrator and will be included as part of every teacher's goal planning process.
  2. Observation Conference Prompts for Teacher Evaluations: Observation conference prompts for teacher evaluations can be created at the district level. They can also be created at the school level, by either a school administrator or an evaluator. The evaluator has access to any prompts created by his school or district.
  3. Observation Conference Prompts for Principal Evaluations: Observation conference prompts for principal evaluations can be created at the district level. They can also be created by the evaluator. The evaluator has access to any prompts created by his district.

For more in-depth documentation on the Prompt Bank see.

District Viewer Setup

Special setup is required to allow authorized district staff to view the progress of teacher evaluators within eVAL. A district admin can configure a district staff member to have viewing authorization for a specific set of schools within the district.  The district viewer can then select a school and teacher evaluator within the school to view. The viewing access is read-only and limited to their teacher evaluations.

For more in-deptn documentation on setting up District Views see.

Resource Setup

This task can be performed at the district or school level. A district administrator and/or a school administrator can create resources, such as uploaded documents or links to websites, that users will have access to when working on their evaluations.
