Self Assigned Calibration Exercises

This chapter only displays the screens that are visible to the person in your district that are assigned the role of the School Principal of District-wide Teacher Evaluator.

Introduction

Calibration Exercises is a feature that allows users in the district that evaluate teachers (principals and district-wide teacher evaluators) to practice scoring against a video observation session that has been master scored.  Once the exercise has been completed, the user is able to view their scores against master anchor scores, and review the supporting master scoring rationale. Depending on the district setup, the individual scores can be shared with the district and viewed in aggregate to see trends and areas to focus professional development.

As a school principal, Calibration Exercises are within the Training section of your "Evaluate Teachers" work-area. If your district has configured the Calibration Exercise feature so that you can self-assign exercises, then you can click the "Add Calibration Exercise" button to start the process.

Selecting the exercise

After clicking the button you will be prompted with a dialog box that allows you to view and select from a set of calibration exercises that have been pre-defined for your district's Teacher Evaluation Framework. You can move through the exercises by clicking either the left or right button on the carousel of images. You can also see which rubric components will be emphasized in the exercise. You will be required to score each rubric component during th exercise. Once you have clicked the Submit button, the exercise will be ready for you to begin.

Sharing the Exercise

Once you have completed the exercise you are ready to submit your scores. During the submission process you will be prompted with a dialog that asks you how you would like to share the results of your exercise.  The options include the following:

  1. Keep the results private (the district will not see your scores)
  2. Share your results anonymously with the district (the district will see an aggregate of all scores across the district)
  3. Share your results with your full profile. In this case, the district will be able to view the full calibration exercise while they are viewing your "Evaluate Teachers" work-area, just as they would be able to view your classroom observations.
