Assigning Exemplars

Introduction

This help page assumes that your district has already enabled the Exemplar Video module. If you have not yet done this step return to Enabling Exemplar Videos for directions.

Currently only principals can assign exemplars to teachers.

The Exemplar Videos section is within the Training section on the Left Navigation Menu. Within the Exemplar Videos section, click on the Assignment tab.

Assigning one exemplar at a time

Each of the exemplars is listed along the top and each of the teachers is listed along the left. You can assign a single exercise to a specific teacher by clicking the "Assign" button in the grid cell where the teacher and exemplar intersect.

Assigning the same exemplar to multiple teachers at once

Use the checkboxes on the leftmost column to select the teachers to which you want to assign the exemplar. You can select/unselect all of the teachers by checking the top checkbox in the upper left corner. Once the teachers are selected, click the "Assign" button in the column header for the correct exemplar.

Assigning exemplars to users in groups

User groups are a new feature in eVAL, and can be used for assigning one or more exemplars to a pre-defined group of users.  In the following example, a group of Math teachers has been created and used to filter the set of teachers that is displayed in the assignment grid.

User groups are created within the Setup section. For more information see the Creating User Groups article.

Adding Comments to the Assignment

Once the Assign button is clicked, a modal dialog will be displayed allowing you to input a comment that will be displayed as part of the exemplar when the assignee views it.

Associating the Exemplar with an Observation

If the assignment is for an individual teacher, and the teacher has one or more observations, then the exemplar can be associated with an observation during the assignment process.

Viewing Assignment Status

Once exemplars have been assigned, you can view their status. The status will be one of two states:

  • In Progress
  • Complete

Teachers are not required to complete the exemplar. If they choose to, they can optionally enter a reflection and then complete the exemplar, which will then allow the evaluator to view the teacher's reflection by clicking on the Complete link in the assignment grid.

Viewing Exemplar response

Once the teacher has completed the exemplar, the evaluator can view the exemplar and the teacher reflection.
